XSYS has announced the commercial availability of the Thermoflex Edge 80, a new laser imaging system for flexo plate production that was first introduced at Labelexpo Europe 2025.

The company describes the Thermoflex Edge 80 as the third generation of its laser imaging platform and says it is the fastest flexo plate imager currently available.

Developed and manufactured at XSYS’ facility in Ypres, Belgium, the Thermoflex Edge 80 is designed to increase flexo prepress productivity. According to the company, the system can achieve imaging speeds of up to 15sqm/hr, which it says is up to twice as fast as competing systems. The platform also features an open architecture intended to integrate with major prepress workflows.

One of the key developments in the new system is the introduction of Woodpecker Nano 2400 surface screening technology. Based on the company’s Nano 2000 platform, the technology operates at 2400ppi and is designed to preserve image data while increasing the number of available grey levels in flexo imaging. XSYS says the technology enables finer detail reproduction, smoother solids and greater print consistency, particularly for flexible packaging applications.

The company said the Thermoflex Edge 80 can maintain imaging speeds of up to 10sqm/hr when using Nano 2000 surface screening and up to 6.5sqm/hr with Nano 2400 activated.

To support operational reliability, the system includes remote diagnostics, real-time monitoring through ProServX Cloud and access to support from XSYS’ global service network. The Thermoflex Edge 80 is also compatible with Catena+, the company’s automated flexo plate production workflow platform.

The Thermoflex Edge 80 is the first model in a new Thermoflex Edge product series. XSYS said additional size variants are expected to be introduced from 2027 onward.

“The Thermoflex Edge 80 represents a fundamental step forward in what flexo prepress can deliver,” said Steven Vandevoorde, general manager of prepress at XSYS. “For our customers, that means more plates per shift, faster turnaround, and print quality that gives them a genuine competitive edge. And it’s backed by the kind of service and support that XSYS has built its reputation on.”
