Prepress provider Contact Originators has invested in AV Flexologic’s Exact 50×80 system, which it says marks a development in the adoption of laser-based flexo plate cutting technology in the UK.

The installation builds on a long-standing relationship between the two companies and reflects continued investment in flexo prepress technology and workflow development.

According to Contact Originators, the Exact 50×80 introduces laser-based cutting into its production environment, supporting plate preparation and cut consistency within a fully enclosed system. The technology also offers capabilities including engraving, plate identification and integration with broader production workflows.

Nick Mitchell, operations director at Contact Originators, said: “This investment reflects our focus on improving plate production and supporting more efficient, connected workflows for our customers and OEM partners. The Exact also creates opportunities to link plate production more closely with the wider print process, particularly in areas such as identification and workflow integration.”

The system is expected to support greater cutting accuracy, with potential benefits including reduced material waste, lower manual handling and improved process traceability. The reduction of preparation steps may also contribute to more consistent results and help minimise errors.

Martijn Otten, managing director at AV Flexologic, said the installation represents an important step in the broader commercial adoption of the Exact platform and could serve as a reference point within the UK market.
