Acorn Labels, a flexo printer and converter based in Cambridgeshire, UK, has installed a new custom-built plain-label converting system from Daco Solutions.

The TD430 manufactured for Acorn is Daco’s first TD system with a 430mm width. The converter, which uses multiple TD converting lines with 350mm web width, approached Daco in 2022 to request a wider machine to help it meet increasing demand.

Acorn’s production manager Sam Heneker said the extra width was already proving its worth in productivity, and that any concerns about the extra width at high speeds had been answered. ‘You never really know until you start using a machine on the factory floor,’ he said. ‘There are small things you can find when you begin to operate it. But Daco has got everything right. The machine is easy to master. It’s all one process: the converted material comes straight off the machine and into the box, so it saves a lot of time. Job changeovers are very quick. Everything about the TD430 is highly efficient, and we are very happy with it.’

The TD350/430 plain-label converting line is equipped with a high capacity U350L 1-metre (40in) unwind module to keep master roll changes to a minimum. The SVT 4 spindle servo-driven turret rewinder offers quick changeover times, while the machine can be configured with either one or two servo-driven rotary die stations.

Daco said its modular construction means that additional equipment can easily be added, including flexo print units to enable manufacturing of weigh scale labels, colour-washed labels and retail labels all in one pass.
