UPM has provided a progress report on the building of its new pulp mill in Uruguay, which is expected to be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

Since the investment decision in July 2019, over 20,000 people have been involved in the various construction sites, including the construction of the UPM Paso de los Toros mill, the pulp terminal in the port of Montevideo and 11 housing areas around Paso de los Toros.

The project is now proceeding with the finalisation of the electrical, instrumental and automation works and commissioning. Auxiliary boilers and power boilers have been commissioned, while water intake, water treatment process and process air system are already in use. Testing of the recovery boiler has started and, according to the company, is advancing well.
