Weber Packaging Solutions has installed the UK’s first Lombardi press, opting for a five-colour Synchroline 530 fully servo motor press, incorporating a Leonardo automatic turret rewinder.

The press is installed at Weber’s 50,000sq ft factory near Edinburgh which employs more than 70 people. The installation increases capacity and adds value to the company’s extensive product portfolio which embraces prime printed labels, RFID, booklets, no-look, foil and embossed labels for wide ranging markets from pharmaceuticals, chemicals and food & drink to homecare, automotive and retail.

Patrick Hughes, managing director at Weber Packaging Solutions, said, ‘Our strategy is to continually develop and enhance our labels range for our customers, alongside our label and coding systems business. The Lombardi press investment provides us with some great new capabilities to provide innovative products and services for our customers which demand in excess of 10 million linear metres of labels every month.’

The company purchased the press through Lombardi’s agent, Evolve, which has exclusive rights to the sales of the Italian press manufacturer in the UK and Ireland.

Giovanni Perego, global sales director at Lombardi Converting Machinery commented, ‘The installation at Weber has gone extremely well and we’re pleased to be extending our reach into what is a high growth market in the UK.’

Weber produces custom designed labels for a wide range of industries, as well as coding, marking and labelling systems. Its UK label production facility is one of the largest label converting plants in the Weber Group, which operates across the world and lists more than 50,000 companies in its customer portfolio.
