Antony Whiteside, managing director of Absolute Engineering, with a shipment of the company’s 2G chambers for Fardem Packaging

Heavy duty packaging company, Fardem is upgrading its existing equipment and installing Absolute carbon fibre print chambers on new machines at its Edam site in the Netherlands.

Manufacturer of packaging predominantly for the chemical, fertiliser, animal feed and food industries, as well as specialised polythene films for the business-to-business sector, Fardem now has a total of 65 Absolute chambers, including those retrofitted since 2011.

All of the chambers and assemblies are designed to be fully interchangeable, even when used on separate machines, and Absolute also provided a bespoke loading system. ‘This meant we didn’t need to cut away at our existing print units, as the loading system accommodated them all,’ explained Ton Voorneveld, Fardem’s engineering manager.

Retrofitting the chambers to 50 print units has ‘standardised set-up procedures and minimised our training requirements,’ added Mr Voorneveld, ‘so we can improve efficiency and consistency of production while the chamber itself has reduced wash-up times and minimised ink loss.’

‘Although this is a large quantity of chambers, Fardem is a very typical customer in that the majority of our business involves trading over many years with the same customers placing repeat orders,’ commented Antony Whiteside, managing director of Absolute.
