Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) has unveiled the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, a new digital embellishment solution designed to help label converters accelerate time-to-market, enhance brand presentation, and deliver additional value to customers.

Available now, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 is the latest generation of roll-to-roll digital embellishment press from MGI Digital Technology. The system enables single-pass spot UV varnishing and hot foil stamping through a fully digital process across a range of substrates and printing technologies, including offset, flexo, toner, and inkjet. It is designed to support short, medium, and long production runs with digital spot UV varnish and hot foil stamping in fixed or variable data, applied in flat or 3D effects.

From a brand owner’s perspective, the technology supports faster and more flexible product launches while improving shelf impact and overall brand perception. Digital embellishment can allow brands to introduce new designs quickly and differentiate products more effectively at the point of sale.

The JETvarnish 3D Web 400 features a modular design and is available in six configurations, including options for one or two print engines, with or without a hot foil unit, and with or without an inline semi-rotary die cutting unit. It is controlled through a simple interface that can also be replicated on a digital table, supported by the MGI Connect software suite for cost calculation, predictive maintenance, and visualisation of embellishment effects.

Key features include an online 3D and augmented reality proofing system that allows customers to remotely visualise embellishment results, and an AI-driven AIS scanner for on-the-fly registration. The system can also apply a special varnish that does not adhere to hot foil, enabling varnishing and foiling in a single pass.

The press can run at speeds of up to 42m/min on roll widths from 200mm to 350mm, with an optional extension to 420mm. Konica Minolta says its compact footprint and lower power consumption can help reduce CO2 emissions, while automated on-the-fly makeready minimises waste and enables consecutive jobs to be run efficiently.

Toshi Uemura, head of industrial print business, Konica Minolta Europe, said: “With this groundbreaking technology that enables single-pass spot UV varnishing and hot foil stamping using a 100% digital process, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 is another example of how we help printers, converters and brand owners to rethink possibilities and maximise efficiencies. The launch is a manifestation of our dedication to pioneering digital transformation, fostering resilience, and contributing to the sustainability of the printing industry, especially as the era of print Industry 5.0 comes to life.”
