Engineered Print Solutions (EPS), part of inkjet printhead manufacturer Xaar Group, has appointed Tom Bertke as sales manager for the Xaar Versatex Printbar in the North American market. The appointment comes as the company expands the availability of the Versatex system to converters and OEMs in the region.

Mr Bertke brings over three decades of experience in capital equipment sales, including 25 years in inkjet technology. His background spans roles with companies such as Domino, EFI, Durst, and Konica Minolta, with a particular focus on digital print solutions for packaging, labelling, and industrial applications.

The Xaar Versatex Printbar is already in use among OEMs and distributors in Europe and is now being marketed in North America through EPS. Designed for use on existing analogue and hybrid presses, it provides digital embellishment capabilities such as varnish, tactile effects, security features, and variable data. Xaar said it is particularly suited to high-opacity white printing on clear and dark materials, offering an alternative to traditional screen and flexo printing.

The system incorporates Xaar’s Nitrox printheads, High Laydown, and TF Technology to achieve consistent UV varnish deposition at high speeds. Its modular design allows for integration into existing production lines, supporting both new installations and retrofits.

In addition to its technical performance, the Versatex system offers production and environmental efficiencies. Faster setup, reduced material waste, and energy savings are among the benefits cited for short-run and high-variation jobs, said Xaar.

Chris Ellis, president of EPS, said Mr Bertke’s appointment aligns with the company’s goal of helping converters enhance their digital print capabilities. “His deep understanding of UV inkjet and experience with Xaar’s technology will be a key asset as we continue to support customers in optimising their workflows,” Mr Ellis stated.
