ProAmpac has announced the commercialisation of ProActive Intelligence Moisture Protect MP-1000, an active packaging technology developed in collaboration with Ozzi, a brand focused on stick-pack formats for sensitive powdered products.
The patent-pending film technology is designed to address moisture-related degradation in food, health and wellness products. The Moisture Protect series incorporates Aptar CSP Technologies’ 3-Phase Activ-Polymer technology, which actively adsorbs residual moisture from package headspace. According to ProAmpac, this removes the need for traditional desiccant packets while maintaining barrier performance.
ProAmpac also that, according to its technical team, the technology could be made available across a range of printing technologies, potentially broadening its application across different packaging formats.
“Moisture Protect MP-1000 demonstrates how active packaging can move beyond protection to actively enable product performance,” said Bob Flaherty, vice president of product development for ProAmpac. “Our collaboration with Ozzi shows what’s possible when material science is aligned with real-world product challenges – delivering better outcomes for brands and consumers alike.”
Ozzi partnered with ProAmpac to address taste and odour issues linked to excess moisture inside stick packs. The company said traditional packaging formats were unable to keep the package interior sufficiently dry, affecting product quality and shelf life.
Following the adoption of MP-1000 packaging, Ozzi reported improvements in moisture control within its stick-pack products. The technology is designed to actively remove moisture from the package interior, helping to protect flavour, reduce unwanted odours and maintain product quality.
“MP-1000 allowed us to solve a critical product performance issue while simplifying our packaging system,” said Brandon Kuipers, founder of Ozzi. “By removing residual moisture at the source, we were able to protect flavours without compromising efficiency or adding complexity to our operation.”
According to ProAmpac, Moisture Protect MP-1000 is designed to integrate into existing packaging lines and can be customized to provide varying levels of moisture protection. The company said eliminating loose desiccants can help reduce waste while supporting product quality and shelf-life goals.
The company said the technology is intended for use in moisture-sensitive applications across food, health and wellness products.
