A group of flexo industry suppliers are to present a “blueprint for the future of packaging printing” at an open house event in Germany in October.
Dubbing it “A New Chapter in Flexographic Printing: Flexo 5.0”, the manufacturers are to present a fully automated solution at the event in Herford, East Westphalia, on 7 October 2025.
Allstein, Esko, Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems and Asahi Photoproducts are the participants, and the companies claim that the demonstration – the specifics of which remain shrouded in secrecy – will send a “clear signal”, namely that “flexo printing is not only becoming more efficient but also strategically competitive with gravure printing”. They added that in markets such as Asia, where gravure has a strong historical presence, the new solution “could become a real alternative”.
According to the information supplied so far, the project involves prepress, plate mounting and printing, all fully automated and without human intervention. Guests will see a solution that demonstrates what the print production of tomorrow will look like, the companies said: highly automated, resource-efficient and ready to tap into new market segments.
They added: “In a time when skilled labour is only rarely available on the job market, flexo printing must also evolve to use personnel more strategically and automate repetitive tasks as much as possible.”
The open house in Herford takes place the day before the start of the K 2025 Show in Düsseldorf.
