Dr Reinhard Ulbrich, a crucial  player in the growth of the Cyrel printing plate business, has passed away at the age of 89.

Upon being appointed director of the Cyrel business, he influenced the company’s management in the USA to start production in Neu Isenburg Germany, and founded the Technical Service Centre.

Reinhard, as he was routinely referred to, was held in great respect and affection by all his colleagues and his many flexographic customers worldwide.

Former colleague, David Stevens, said, ‘He had the ability to get the best performance from his team, with his passion for the business and attention to his team. He defined leadership by his involvement in the business and to be part of a field trip was a lesson in customer service and care, never without a of a bottle of German white wine as a passing gift to customer.

‘Reinhard enjoyed the company of the flexographic community and initiated the Cyrel Awards competition. This competition was subsequently conducted around the world in many countries to grow the brand and promote the capability of quality printing in flexography, even commissioning a promotional video entitled  ”simply the best” a truly motivation movie for the team. And as anyone who ever encountered him would say he was –  simply the best.’
