The flexo press manufacturer has widened its portfolio to include digital printing, acquiring RDP Marathon and IPT Digital

Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC), a Barry-Wehmiller company, has expanded its offering to include digital printing technology with the acquisition of RDP Marathon and IPT Digital.

PCMC specialises in the design and manufacture of converting machinery for the tissue, nonwovens and package printing industries worldwide. The American company recently identified inkjet technology as key to accelerating growth in current markets and supporting expansion into new ones, particularly folding cartons.

RDP Marathon provides contract design and manufacturing services for a variety of high mix, low volume industrial applications. IPT Digital is a digital inkjet systems specialist.

Through a partnership with IPT Digital, RDP Marathon has established a division dedicated to digital printing, offering the JFlex870 and JFlex1700 digital label conversion systems. Based on four-colour Memjet drop-on-demand thermal inkjet technology, these systems turn existing presses into a high-speed digital printing platform. The result is inkjet printing at 84m/min, 220mm-wide at a resolution of 1600 x 1375dpi. 152m/min can be achieved at a lower resolution. JFlex1700 allows the option to duplex print and print at a width of 220-430mm.

PCMC president Stan Blakney said, ‘We’re eager to have RDP Marathon and IPT Digital join the PCMC family. As we look to augment our print business, their expertise will enable us to quickly break into new markets and diversify our product portfolio. Digital printing continues to experience substantial growth, and we’re excited to enter into that market through this acquisition.’
