Baker Labels subsidiary BakPac has appointed Phil Smith as general manager, the first time in 10 years the company has introduced a new member of the team at senior management level.

Mr Smith joined Sussex Labels in 1990 where he started in rewind/packing and moved up to production planning and estimating. In 1999 he joined Tinsley Robor labels taking on a number of management rolls from accounts, technical, commercial and operations manager before being appointed operations director of AGI Labels. As the company was once again taken over, this time by AJS Labels he was appointed commercial director followed by managing director.

Steve Baker, managing director at Baker Labels, ‘We have been growing rapidly over the last few years and the plan is to keep building, investing and growing, potentially into new areas of the print and packaging industry. We have some big plans ahead that created the need for another manager. I’ve known Phil for many years and always knew he’d be a good fit at Bakers. I’m looking forward to working with him, as are the rest of the team.’
