The five companies collaborated in the demonstrative event to showcase the results that can be achieved with EB curable inks

On 19 July ESI, Siegwerk, Henkel and Comexi held an event at Comexi’s Technological Centre Manel Xifra Boada (CTEC) to compare conventional solvent inks with EB 730 curable inks from Siegwerk.

The event started with a presentation from PepsiCo, in which Todd Fayne, project management and execution specialist, explained the company’s “Performance with Purpose” sustainability agenda. Im Rangwalla, market development manager at Energy Sciences Inc (ESI) – global, exclusive distributor of the GelFlex Intellectual Property Licenses – also presented, explaining the licensing programme.

The printing tests were performed on a Comexi F2 WB capable of printing both water-based and solvent-based inks that had been mechanically modified to use the EB 730 inks from Siegwerk. The configuration of aniloxes, tapes and plates was the result of months of tests, analysis and deliberation from the different experts conforming the team.

A seven-colour job was printed using the Siegwerk inks plus a High Gloss EB Curable overprint varnish from Henkel. Key advantages included minimum dot gain, consistency and improved mechanical resistances.
