Packaging and paper producer Mondi has introduced a new kraft paper product, Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible, designed for use in both industrial and consumer packaging applications. The company said the paper offers a combination of strength, extensibility, puncture resistance, and a smooth surface.

Positioned between traditional sack kraft and machine-finished kraft paper grades, the new product is intended for use as a base material in coated and heat-sealable packaging. According to Mondi, the calendered surface improves coating adhesion and print quality, making it well-suited to packaging applications where visual presentation and durability are important.

The paper has been developed over a three-year period and is designed to support form-fill-and-seal (FFS) applications, especially for sharp or heavy items such as toys, dry foods, spare parts, and building materials.

Mondi states that the paper is made from responsibly sourced fresh fibres, with optional PEFC or FSC chain of custody certification. The product is also recyclable in European paper recycling systems, verified using the 4Evergreen (4EG) recyclability evaluation protocol.

The company noted that the material is compatible with existing converting and filling lines, helping to maintain process efficiency. The product has been successfully tested for flexo printing, with Mondi saying it is also expected to work with digital printing, although further testing is required to confirm this compatibility.

“Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible fills a gap in the market by combining runnability and strength with coating-friendly smoothness,” said Sabrina Klösch, technical sales service at Mondi. “This paper is the result of collaboration across our technical and R&D teams to address specific packaging performance and sustainability requirements.”
