Anglia Labels has announced the retirement of its managing director Ian Woodhead, concluding a 46-year career in the print industry and 22 years with the Suffolk-based label manufacturer.

Mr Woodhead began his career in 1979, working across a period of significant technological change in print. His experience has included early methods such as zinc plates and chemical processing, through to modern digital printing systems. He started in sales before completing an apprenticeship in polymer platemaking and later moving into reprographics and operational management. His career also included work with early digital systems, including Art Pro and Barco, and training on one of the UK’s first HP Indigo presses.

In 2000, Mr Woodhead joined Technique Labels, where he developed a working relationship with Anglia Labels’ founder, Rowland Grindell. Following the closure of Technique Labels in 2004, he joined Anglia Labels as sales manager. He was appointed sales director six months later and became managing director in 2012.

During his tenure at Anglia Labels, a member of the Digital Labels & Packaging Membership Group, Mr Woodhead oversaw investment in digital technology, expansion of production capabilities and the strengthening of customer relationships. He also led the company through challenges including the Covid-19 pandemic and a period of ownership transition following Mr Grindell’s illness, maintaining operational stability.

Reflecting on his retirement, Mr Woodhead said: “After twenty-two years at Anglia Labels, I leave the business in capable hands under the leadership of Sophy Moynagh, owner and operations director, supported by a highly skilled management and production team. My time with the company has been challenging, rewarding and immensely enjoyable, and I am proud of what we have achieved together.”

Ms Moynagh commented: “Ian has led Anglia Labels with integrity, experience and remarkable composure. He has always been the first to step forward when challenges arose, and his technical knowledge and calm leadership have shaped the business we are today. On behalf of the entire team, I would like to thank Ian for his mentorship, resilience and friendship. His contribution to this company will have a lasting legacy.”

The company has confirmed that there are no current plans to hire a new managing director. General manager, Ian Harris, alongside Ms Moynagh will head responsibilities at Anglia Labels.
