IST METZ UV systems

Crewe-based packaging supply shop, Jaymar Packaging, is the first UK company to utilise the IST (UK) UV retrofit service. It has added a conventional UV system to a Roland 700 six-colour and coating press.

‘We hope by adding this UV facility we can open up new markets and produce more added value work in both the pharmaceutical and high impact packaging sectors we serve,’ said Gary Marsh, production director. ‘It is getting harder and more expensive to outsource UV work and it is a sector in which we see an increase in demand. We want to be competitive in this area and by investing in this equipment we will be able to control all aspects of quality, lead times and more importantly costs.’

The press is fitted with Colour Pilot and Roland’s Eagle Eye quality system and it is anticipated that the press will also drive further investment in the finishing departments. The company will now operate two Roland 700s and is both an ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmentally certified business.

Chris Schofield, joint managing director at IST UK, said, ‘We were delighted to help Jaymar add UV to its latest press and we hope to do more retrofit work in 2016. We can provide conventional UV like this but also LE-UV and LUV (trade name for LED-UV) add-on technology. Retrofits on an installed press take about five or six days for conventional UV but just 1-2 days for LE-UV and LUV. We are happy to advise printers on their best route forward and the different UV options available to them.’
