The new Andrex range created for Kimberly-Clark

Manufacturer and supplier of embossed, plain and printed flexible films, Skymark has partnered with Kimberly-Clark to develop a new packaging format for Andrex toilet tissue.

The new product range has been produced on the company’s F&K 16s flexo presses equipped with SmartGPS auto set/register, a feature that removes the need to run the press to set up, thus minimising waste. Furthermore, it was printed from a fixed six colour palette using Sun Chemical Solimax inks, eliminating the need to change inks from design to design, again saving time and reducing waste. The high definition plates were supplied by VCG Connect.

Skymark first adopted the approach of a fixed colour palette almost three years ago, but have gone on to develop this concept further to meet the ever increasing demands for sustainability and cost reduction.

Director Paul Neath commented, ‘By working closely with the Kimberly-Clark, we have been able to develop new elements to the packaging that create shelf appeal and consistency. When combined, these changes improve the shopper experience by creating an aisle that is not only more engaging but simpler to navigate.’

At its Ilkeston site, Skymark produces multi-layer blown polyethylene films, which are used in several applications including lamination and general purpose films to a width of 2.6 metres. The specialist film developed for the new range has been created to offer Kimberly-Clark excellent product appearance, but also optimised product processing within its toilet tissue production facilities.
